International cultural jamboree begins; all eyes on Moodabidri

Mangaluru: The 25th international cultural jamboree of Scouts and Guides was inaugurated by the Governor of Karnataka Thawar Chand Gehlot at Alva’s Campus, Moodbidri here on December 21.
Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the festival Thawar Chand Gehlot said, “The youth play a very important role in the development of the nation. Each and every one of us should think about how to help our country become a better place. The journey of the next 25 years will be a golden era for New India. Our resolutions in this Amritkaal will take us to 100 years of independence”
“Thousands of Scouts, Guides, Rovers, Rangers, students, and unit leaders of the country will be participating in the festival. For the next seven days, Moodbidri will uphold India’s rich cultural beauty and the whole country will witness this,” he added.
He further added, “Scouts and Guides activities are increasing rapidly in our state. Over 6.50 lakh volunteers have been trained in the last 100 years. Fulfilling the motto of the organization – “Be Ready and Serve”.”
“Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam mindset of our country is helping India move forward,” he said.
A colorful cultural procession was held after the inaugural programme. Rajya Sabha MP and Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala Dr D Virendra Heggade, Ahmed Alhendawi, Secretary-General of the World Organization of the Scout Movement and Dr K K Khandelwal, IAS, District Chief Commissioner Bharat Scouts & Guides Dakshina Kannada Dr Mohan Alva, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLA Moodbidri Umanath Kotian, Deputy Commissioner Ravi Kumar IAS, ZP CEO Dr Kumar IAS and others were also present.
Theme of the jamboree is ‘culture for youth solidarity.’
The cultural programs at the jamboree will be held from 5 pm to 8.30 pm each day on 10 stages prepared on Alva’s campus. There will also be programs on the themes of agriculture/horticulture, science, books, art and culture, and food during the Jamboree.
The public is also welcome to view the performances during the jamboree.
Apart from Scouts, Guides, Rangers, and Rovers from across India, students from Malaysia and South Korea are also taking part in the jamboree.
1,000 chefs to feed hungry campers
Elaborate arrangements have been made to cater to the nutritional requirements of the campers. As many as 1,000 chefs have been specially employed to feed the public as well as the students who are participating in the mega-event. Well-equipped kitchens and storehouses have also been construced.
