International Design Workshop, iDiDe 2019, inaugurated

Manipal: iDiDe 2019, organized by Faculty of Architecture, Manipal Academy of Higher Education was inaugurated on Wednesday and will continue till January 28, 2019. iDiDe pronounced “i-dee-dee” is an international design workshop with a transcultural themed agenda.

The programme involves students from a number of institutions working in collaborative studio groups of 3-6 members alongside academics, architects and built environment professionals who offer industry expertise and professional mentorship. iDiDe was initiated by Deakin University Australia in 2010, since then seven iDiDe workshops have been held in Australia and other Asian countries.

The studio aims at sustainable design proposal of Anganwadi, mother and child care centre at Shirthady, Moodbidri, Mangalore District. Dr. Narayana Sabhahit, Registrar MAHE was the chief guest. Also present were Dr. Raghu Radhakrishnan, Director Inernational Collaborations, Ms. Susan Ang, Senior lecturer and Founder of iDiDe, Deakin University, Australia, Prof. Deepika Shetty, Director, FOA, and Prof Nandineni Ramadevi, coordinator, iDiDe, FOA .

Faculty of Architecture, MAHE had hosted iDiDe 2018 at Manipal in which success of the design proposals for an Anganwadi (rural mother and child care centre) in Ajjarkad, Udupi was accomplished through a great sense of commitment towards the design goals set by participants from Deakin University, Australia, International Islamic University Malaysia and Manipal Academy of Higher Education, India.

The results of Anganwadi, Ajjarkad included a sustainable built structure for integrated development of mother and child with the social, emotional, physical well-being in a supportive and healthy environment through a systematic and holistic design approach using the vernacular style and methods of construction.
