Bengaluru: An initial probe by an Indian labour office into last week’s violence at iPhone factory in Karnataka run by Wistron found “several labour law violations”

According to Reuters, The labour office said Wistron did not maintain proper employment and appointment details of its workers. It added that some who worked in 12-hour shifts at the plant were not paid for overtime.

The report further stated that the company did not keep up salary and attendance records as required by law, and contract staff were unhappy about non-payment of wages for extra work hours, the office said, adding that Wistron failed to submit these records on demand.

The report also named three of Wistron’s manpower providers – Creative Engineers, Quess Corp and Addeco India – for exceeding hiring quotas permitted under government rules.
