Bengaluru: Karnataka Home Minister Araga Jnanendra lashed out at the Congress party on Thursday and said that Congress must not politicize the Mysuru Gang-rape incident.
He was reacting to the Congress party’s claims that BJP protects rapists and is anti-women. Taking to Twitter, Congress wrote, ” BJP government had protected one of the former ministers who was accused of raping a woman. BJP supports rapists and is anti-women. Even after 24 hours, no arrests have been made. Also, neither the home minister nor the BJP leaders have met the victim. This shows their negligent attitude. The BJP has decided to implement the ‘UP model’ in the state.”
Speaking to the reporters, Araga said, ” Mysuru gang rape is a serious incident. It is not right to politicize it. Were there no such incidents during the Congress rule? They are blaming the government because BJP is in power.”
“An FIR has been filed in this regard. Police officials are already working on the case. The case has been taken very seriously. I am going to Mysuru this evening and will hold a meeting with the police officers tomorrow. The victim is currently being treated at the hospital. Pratap Reddy, a senior official from Bangalore, has been sent to Mysuru. Action is being taken to arrest the absconding accused,” he added.
He further said, ” Thousand of tourists often visit the spot where the incident took place. This is a very shameful incident. The victim’s parents have also arrived and further investigations are underway.”
Reacting to the illegal activities in jails, Araga said, “We will take strict action against the concerned and avoid such incidents in the future.”
