Mangaluru: MLC Ivan D’Souza has demanded that permission must not be given for Home Minister Amit Shah’s Mangaluru visit to participate in the Samarthana Samavesha supporting Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) on January 19.
Speaking to reporters here on Monday, he said that peace has returned to the city and the district after the violence of December 19. “If Amit Shah visits the city then peace will be disturbed. A protest campaign ‘Go Back Amit Shah’ will be held by local Congress workers if he visits the city,” he said.
He also advised that instead of the Home Minister visiting Mangaluru, the District in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary and MLA Vedavyasa Kamath meet victims of the police firing.
Further Ivan alleged that contradictory statements given by PM Modi and Amit Shah on implementation of CAA and NRC have only added to the confusion among people. He also questioned the exclusion of Muslims from the Act, stating that the BJP was trying to create a divide between Hindus and Muslims.
