Mangaluru: A silent protest march led by the Indian Jain Milan – Mangalore Division and members of Jain Samaj was held in the city on Monday demanding severe punishment for the accused in the barbaric killing of Jain Muni Kamakumar Nandi Maharaj in Hirekodi village, Chikkodi Taluk, Belagavi district.
The procession was led by Dr. Swastishri Charukirthi Bhattaraka Panditacharya Varya Maha Swamiji. Jain community leaders including Pushparaj Jain, Suresh Ballal, Sudarshan Jain, Ratnakara Jain, and Jagatpal Jain were present.
The march started from the Clock Tower and concluded at the District Collector’s office, where a request was submitted to the Chief Minister through the Deputy Commissioner.
In his address before the procession, Maha Swamiji emphasized the need for a thorough investigation and appointment of a proper investigation team to prevent the arrested accused from escaping the clutches of the law. Being a minority among minorities, Jains fear for their social security, and it is crucial to provide adequate protection to all monks and saints. Additionally, he stressed the installation of CCTV cameras in Shraddha Kendras.
Leaders od the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal also participated in the protest.
