Jasmine price rises to Rs 1,250

Shirva: Shankarapura jasmines, which were ranging at a stable price since a month has seen a drastic rise in its prices and on Saturday, an ‘Attige Katte’ cost Rs 1,250. Since a few days the price was from Rs 400 to Rs 500, but on Thursday, Friday the prices rose to Rs 750.

As marriages, religious programmes and festivals began since December, the demand for jasmine increase and thus the prices remained at a stable level.

“The price is being decided based on the demand. Due to the lack in the availability of the jasmines, the price has reached Rs 1,250,” said Anni Shetty, Shirva jasmine merchant

“As the weather was not conducive, jasmine plants have died and the yield has reduced. Since there are programme, the demand has increased and so has the price,” said Violet Castlino, cultivator
