Jayananda Anchan elected Mayor, Poornima as Deputy Mayor of Mangaluru

Mangaluru: Jayananda Anchan has been elected as the Mayor and Poornima as the Deputy Mayor of Mangaluru on Friday, September 9.

Jayananda Anchan represents the Kadri Padavu (Ward No. 22), whereas Poornima is a corporator from the Central Market (Ward No 41) of the MCC.

This time the post of Mayor was reserved for the “General” category, while the Deputy Mayor was for the “Backward Class Woman” representative.

Jayananda got 46 votes in favor including those of the 2 MLAs. Whereas, his rival, senior corporator from Congress party Shasidhara Hegde secured 14 votes.

In the race for Deputy Mayor, BJP’s Poornima secured 46 votes as against 14 votes received by her rival Zeenat Shamsuddin of Congress.
