Jayaprakash Hegde, the Congress candidate for the Chikkamagaluru-Udupi constituency expressed dissatisfaction with the Central Government’s promises made prior to coming to power in 2014.
He was talking to the voters on Thursday at Genesis company near Hiriyadaka.
“They had assured to generate employment for 30,000 people within one year of assuming office, but even after ten years, job creation hasn’t materialized” he said.
Hegde criticized the government for its failure in this regard while acknowledging that private companies in the region are providing employment opportunities.
Hegde highlighted his past role as chairman of the Brahmavar Sugar Factory, where he managed to clear debts by selling surplus sugar.
He further said, “During the tenure of the subsequent government led by S.M. Krishna, a portion of the debt money was released. However, when pressed to pass the remaining money, they demanded my resignation. I arranged for a loan of 45 lakhs from elsewhere. Despite facing such challenging circumstances, we persevered and successfully managed the operations of the factory. Today it is saddening to see the management seling off iron ore and stone from the factory premises which has wiped out the exitence of the sugar factory.”
He remarked on the irony of being in a situation where job creation remains stagnant despite efforts, and pointed out the need for more initiatives to provide employment opportunities for the youth. Hegde questioned whether the government’s claims of contributing 15 lakhs to every citizen’s account through black money could be realized, given the current state of the nation’s finances. He also criticized the government for the discrepancies in Jan Dhan accounts, where despite accounts being opened, no funds have been deposited.
He urged the voters to consider giving the Congress party a chance this time by casting their votes in its favor.
Former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, prominent figures M.A. Gafoor, and Bhaskar Rao Kediyoor were also present.
