JD(S) alliance with NCP breaks over Pawar move

Bengaluru/Belgavi: NCP national president Sharad Pawar’s participation in Madhyavarti Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) programme in Belagavi on Saturday has broken the month-old alliance between the Janata Dal (Secular) and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

A seat-sharing agreement was established between JD(s) and NCP after JD(S) announced its willingness to share 5-7 seats in the Bombay-Karnataka and Hyderabad-Karnataka regions, where Mr. Pawar has a following.

“Mr. Pawar turned a rally “for unity among border residents” into an election campaign meeting for the MES. He canvassed for MES candidates claiming it would support the case of Belgavi’s merger with Maharashtra in the Supreme Court,” said JD(S) state president H.D. Kumaraswamy after calling off the alliance with NCP.
