Mangaluru: Supporting former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy who released a CD on the December 19 Mangaluru violence, Dakshina Kannada JD(S) unit President Mohammed Kunhi on Monday, January 13 said that a probe should be conducted in this regard.

Kumaraswamy, who released 35 video clips related to the Mangaluru violence, had demanded the suspension of the police commissioner and also sought a house committee to probe the incident.

Addressing presspersons here Kunhi questioned, “If the police department did not commit any mistake why is the state government worring about the CDs released by Kumaraswamy?”

He further added that instead of blaming Kumaraswamy for releasing the CD, an investigation should be conducted with this regard and if the CDs are fake and fabricated then they can punish the JDS leaders.

“One should not come to a conclusion, without verifying the facts,” he said.

“The Compol has defended the police’s action of opening fire at the protesters in a voice message to the media. However, it looks like he has done the same following directions of the state government. The incident of firing could have been avoided if Harsha had used his wisdom,” he expressed.

It may be recalled that BJP MP Shobha Karandlaje accused Kumaraswamy of misleading the probe and termed the CD a fake. She also demanded to know the source of the CD.

“Kumaraswamy has fabricated and released the video. Karnataka police has a good name across the country. By blaming them to play his political game, he is demoralising police. I urge the former chief minister to come clean on this issue as it casts aspersions on their integrity and professionalism,” she said.

Meanwhile, RDPR minister KS Eshwarappa said Kumaraswamy has been always known to release doctored CDs. “The videos have been edited to mislead people. HDK is CDK given the number of CDs he releases,” said Eshwarappa.
