JD(S) worker killing: Four arrested

Mandya: The Maddur Police on Thursday, December 27 arrested four people in connection with the murder of JD(S) leader Thoppanahalli Prakash (48).
The arrested are Prasanna, Swamy, Muttesh and Yogesh alias Dabha, all hailing from Toppanahalli. They were produced before a court at Maddur which remanded them in custody till January 4.
Addressing presspersons Superintendent of Police Shivaprakash Devaraj informed that following the murder, they formed three teams, led by DySP Shylendra Kumar. The teams picked up three accused from Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh and while Swamy was arrested in Mandya.
The SP further informed that another three accused are absconding and assured that they will be arrested soon. He also said that the police have extended security to a few people who had complained of a threat to their lives.
In the investigation, it was confirmed that Prakash was hacked to death in relation to the simmering differences over a two-year-old double murder case.
Prakash was hacked to death on Monday, December 24 evening in Maddur town of Mandya district, which is a JD(S) stronghold. The killing sparked tension in and around Maddur as the victim’s supporters and party workers staged a protest by blocking a road.
