Jeep-lorry accident kills 5, injures 7

Kasaragod: A tragic accident between a lorry and a jeep which took place on the national highway at Uppala Naya Bazar has claimed the lives of five people and grievously injured seven. The incident took places on the wee hours of Monday, July 9th.

The deceased have been identified as Bhipathimma (65), Asma (30) Naseema (38), Mustak (41) and Imtiaz (35) from Thalapady KC Road, Ajithidakka. Four of the victims died on the spot and one succumbed to injuries at a nearby hospital. The injured are being treated at a hospital in Mangaluru.

After visiting Palakkad for a house inauguration function, the victims were travelling back to Mangaluru in the jeep when the lorry going transporting goods towards Kasaragod collided with the jeep. The force of collision was such that the jeep was mangled.

Police investigating the accident revealed that tha lorry suffered a burst tyre because of which the vehicle the driver lost control of his vehicle and rammed into the oncoming jeep. The accident disrupted traffic on the national highway.

With considerably effort Manjeshwar police, fire-fighters and locals were able to shift the dead and injured to the hospital and normalize the vehicular movement.
