A video of Jilumol Mariet Thomas became viral, where even Anand Mahindra took to Twitter to praise her courage.

Who is Jilumol Mariet Thomas?

Jilumol Mariet Thomas, 29, is reportedly the first woman in Asia to receive a driving license despite being born without arms. That’s not it. She is a graphic designer, an artist and a YouTuber with more than 27 thousand subscribers.

Life doesn’t come easy to anyone but fate had other plans for young Jilumol who suffers from Thalimide  Syndrome and was born without hands. Among others who have turned their disability into strengths, Jilumol is one such inspiring human.

Jilumol has trained herself in various chores like combing her hair, folding clothes, painting, drawing, using a computer and now driving a car.

Driving a car has been her childhood dream. Jilumol has been hell-bent on making this dream come true.

In 2014, Jilumol approached Thodupuzha RTO, requesting to be allowed to take the driving license test. In turn to her request, she was asked to bring a copy of the driving license of a person who was granted a driving license in special circumstances. After a lot of research, she found Vikram Agnihotri, the first person without hands to get a driving license in India.

Four years later, Jilumol bought her own car, a custom-built Maruti Celerio-Automatic. The car was bought on the RTO’s guidance and alterations were made. The very same year, in 2018, Jilumol moved the High Court, seeking permission for driving.  The Centre gave a nod and now she is waiting for a response from the State government.

Jilumol is currently working as a graphic designer at Viani Paintings. She also has a YouTube channel where she hosts live streams regularly and even uploads videos of her completing various chores, playing snake and ladders, etc.

Jilumol Mariet Thomas is a fine example of not giving up and following your dreams and that with sheer determination you can turn your dreams into reality.
