Jodupala calamity saviours gifted Rs 1 lac each by Min Zameer Ahmed

Mangaluru: In a heartwarming gesture, Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan, on Thursday, October 11 handed out Rs one lakh each to four youths who rescued several persons during the natural calamity at Jodupala in Kodagu district.

The minister, who was in the city to lay the foundation stone for Karnataka Legal  Metrology department’s ‘Mapana Bhavan’ at Kudupu here felicitated and presented the cash, out of his own personal savings to the four youths during the programme.

During the recent calamity at Jodupala, a 16-member team had saved lives of around 200 people while risking theirs. Out of the 16 persons, Zameer had recently, during his visit to Madikeri provided financial assistance to 12 people to take their family on the Umrah pilgrimage. The remaining four – Bipin Kallugundi, Manohara Kalive, Vijaya Nidinji and Dinesh Kallugundi – had expressed their desire to be able to take their family to Hindu pilgrimage places. 

Speaking on the occasion, Zameer said that humanity is more important than caste and religion. “The youths hail from a middle-class background and are Bajrang Dal members. They had expressed their desire to go on pilgrimage with family and hence I am helping them by providing this assistance,” he added.

MLA Vedavyas Kamath, Mayor Bhaskar Moily, Wakf Board President Kanachur Monu and others were present.
