Journos protest against Speaker’s decision barring live telecast of House proceedings

Bengaluru: Media personnel on Friday, October 11 staged a protest against Karnataka Assembly Speaker Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri over his decision to bar media from telecasting assembly proceedings.
Earlier on Thursday, representatives from different Kannada news channels as well national media met the Speaker at his chamber in Vidhana Soudha and submitted a memorandum urging him to reconsider his decision. Though Kageri, however, refused to budge and reportedly left the chamber without listening to their grievances. Irked by this the media representatives decided to stage a protest against the Speaker.
As per the Speakers order, only Doordarshan cameras will be allowed inside the Legislative Assembly.
The three-day winter session of the Karnataka Assembly commenced on Thursday.
