Mangaluru: Several youths in Mangaluru held a protest demanding justice for Lavanya, a 12th standard girl who committed suicide after allegedly being forced to convert to Christianity by school authorities.
Youths held a protest near Mangaluru City corporation, holding placards and shouting slogans. They demanded the state government to bring necessary laws to put an end to conversions in missionary schools.
Lavanya, a student of Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School claimed in her suicide note that the school had been pressuring her to convert to Christianity.
It is reported that dejected Lavanya consumed pesticides used in the school garden to end her life.
The incident sparked massive outrage over the methods adopted by missionary schools operating in Tamil Nadu.
