Kadaba: Police have arrested two persons in connection with the acid attack on three female students at a government pre-university college in Kadaba here on March 4 during the examinations.
The arrested persons, hailing from Tamil Nadu had allegedly supplied acid to the main accused Abin Shibi (23).
Shibi, who has been arrested, claimed during interrogation that one of the victims had spurned his amorous advances, and he took this “extreme step to show his disappointment in love.”
He claimed that he had targeted only the girl, who suffered third-degree facial burn injuries in the attack. But the acid also spilled over the other two students, who were sitting close to her, he claimed. He wore a school uniform, mask, and cap to conceal his identity and approached them with a bottle and threw acid, police said.
As per the police, Shibi travelled to Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu by train from his hometown Malappuram and purchased acid there. After the incident, the police produced the accused to the court and took him into police custody for further investigation.
During the Majahar, the police visited all the places frequented by Shibi, including Tamil Nadu, and carried out a detailed investigation.
Currently, Shibi has been remanded to judicial custody.
Police sources said that Shibi was also carrying a knife and burkha in his bag on the day of the incident. It is suspected that he would have stabbed the victim in case he failed to carry out the acid attack. The burkha was bought to escape the scene without being identified.
