Kadaba: Forest department authorities have successfully captured a wild elephant in Kadaba.

The hunt for the wild elephant that killed two people in Renjilady-Naila of Kadaba taluk, Dakshina Kannada district, began on February 20, Monday morning.

The elephant was sighted in Mandekere’s Subrahmanya Forest Range, Kobaru.

Officials from the elephant forest department are planning to relocate the tusker after it has been tranquilized. Five elephants have been spotted in the area, according to sources.

Two people were trampled to death by a wild elephant at Renjilady village of Kadaba Taluk on Monday morning.

The victims have been identified as Ranjitha (21) and Ramesh Rai Naila (55).

The elephant attacked Ranjitha near her house when she was on her way to work at Renjiladi Milk Society where she was employed. Hearing her screams, Ramesh who was nearby rushed to rescue her and was also injured by the elephant.

Ramesh died on the spot due to the injuries whereas Ranjitha breathed her last while being taken to the hospital.
