In response to the disturbance during the inauguration of the Ayodhya Ram temple, a three-day prohibition under IPC section 144 has been enforced in Wadi of Chittapur taluk, situated in Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge’s constituency.
Chittapur Tehsildar issued the sec 144 order to maintain law and order after a tumultuous Sri Rama Idol procession on Monday. The prohibition will remain in effect until 6:00 am on January 25, with exceptions given for essential services like hospitals and medicine shops. Shop-fronts are required to be closed, and groups of more than four people are prohibited.
The decision to impose the ban stems from an incident during Monday’s Ram Idol procession. Stones were thrown near a meat shop as the procession neared the bus station, resulting in the injury of a young man in the shop. A heated argument ensued, escalating the situation. Police intervened and used a light baton charge to disperse the crowd.
During this time, individuals shouted slogans both in favor of Modi and against Priyank Kharge, prompting the police to announce a high alert to prevent further escalation.
The situation in Wadi remains tense. Police patrols are actively monitoring the area, and some private schools have declared a holiday.
