Kalaburagi: A 4-year-old girl child was branded with a hot iron press at home by her step-mother, angry over the child asking for food in Vadi, Chittapur in Kalaburagi.

The child has been identified as Sonalika. It is said that Sonalika’s father Tippana got married to a woman named Maremma after the death of his first wife.

Tippanna works in Maharashtra and the child stays with her stepmother in Vadi. The neighbors alleged that Maremma often tortures the child and beats her.

On Monday, when the child asked for food, Maremma allegedly burnt the child’s hand with a hot iron press. The child screaming in pain went to the neighbor’s house to ask for help.

Angered by this, the neighbors along with a few villagers questioned Maremma and also informed the police officials.

The child, Sonalika has been rescued and is currently being treated for her burns in the nearby hospital.
