Kambala jockey covers 143 meters in 13.62 sec, breaks 30-year-old record

Mangaluru: Srinivasa Gowda, a Kambala jockey from Moodabidri has created a new record as the fastest runner in the history of Kambala.

Srinivasa Gowda in the recent season took just 13.62 seconds to cover the distance oh 143 meters at the Kambala at Aikala village, breaking the earlier record dating back to the early 1990s. Tweets appreciating his talent has been going viral on social media.

Srinivasa Gowda is a school dropout and works as a construction labourer when he isn’t racing or training for it. He has participated in over 12 Kambala races and in the recent race, he broke a record by winning in four categories. This was the first of a kind occurrence in the history of Kambala. From all of his races, he has won over 29 prizes.

During the current season, Gowda is the jockey of three pairs of buffaloes owned by Shakti Prasad of Mijar, Bada Poojary of Iruvail and Harshavardhan of Poojary.

Kambala is an annual buffalo race held in the southwestern Indian state of Karnataka.
