Bengaluru: While JDS is planning to field Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy ‘s son and actor Nikhil Kumaraswamy as the party candidate for the Mandya Lok Sabha seat, the Kannada film industry has requested to field Sumalatha Ambareesh, wife of former minister late Ambareesh, from the seat.
At at a closed-door meeting attended by Rockline Venkatesh, Doddanna and others, everyone favoured fielding any member from Ambareesh’s family.
Though Sumalatha initially refused to enter politics she later agreed after the film fraternity promised to support her. They also assured Sumalatha that if Congress or JD(S) fail to make her the candidate then will make her contest as an independent candidate and promised to work hard for her victory.
After hearing the news Mandya District Congress president Ashok Kumar too extended his support and requested the party leaders to field either Sumalatha or Abhishek for the Mandya Lok Sabha seat.
He further added that Nikhil Kumaraswamy is an outsider, but Ambareesh was popular in the district, someone from his family should be given ticket by Congress or JD(S).
