Kannada language to be made mandatory from grade 1

Bengaluru: The State Department of Public Instructions has laid rules that Kannada language should be mandatory for all schools across the state.
The department has shared circulars to fetch a report of total number of schools teachings kannada language as their second or third language.
The department is planning to impose kannada language from grade 1.
Basavaraju, Director of Primary Education, Department of Public Instructions said, “We have asked the district officers to give us a report of schools teaching Kannada by September 5. We will scrutinise the report and make the rules uniform. Schools not abiding to the government order will be taken to task.”
