Kannur International Airport: Gold worth Rs 15 lakh seized

Kasaragod: Customs officials at Kannur International Airport has seized 617 grams of gold worth Rs 15 lakh from a passenger arriving from Doha at Kannur International Airport on Tuesday April 16th.
The arrested passenger is identified as Ansab Tiruvangot from Vadagara in Kannur district. The accused had chemically converted the metal into a paste and was smuggling it by hiding it inside his clothes.
However, the bid to smuggle the precious metal was foiled the customs officials under the leadership of Customs Assistant Commissioner Madhusudhan Bhat. A case has been registered against the accused. This is the third instance of gold smuggling occurring at Kannur International Airport in the month of April.
Since the inauguration of the airport in December 2018, customs officials have so far seized almost 5kgs of gold worth Rs 1.59 crore related to 8 cases.
