Sandalwood movie “Kantara” which has created ‘magic’ at the box office is now surrounded by controversy.
The song, “Varaha Roopam” composed by Music Director Ajaneesh Loknath is now facing legal trouble for alleged plagiarism.
Popular Kerala-based rock band Thaikkudam Bridge has claimed the song “Varaha Roopam” to be a copy of their original song “Navarasam”. They have claimed that the tune of the song has similarities to Kantara’s song.
Clarifying their stand on the issue, taking to social media, Thaikkudam Bridge has expressed their opinion.
A post on the Facebook page of Tahikkudam Bridge page read, “We would like our listeners to know that Thaikkudam Bridge is in no way or form affiliated with “Kantara”. The unavoidable similarities between our IP “Navarasam” and “Varaha Roopam” in terms of audio is therefore a blatant infringement of copyright laws. From our standpoint the line between “Inspired” and “Plagiarized” is distinct and indisputable and therefore we will be seeking legal action against the creative team responsible for this. There has been no acknowledgement of our rights over the content and the song is propagated as an Original piece of work by the movie’s creative team”.
“We request the support of our listeners and encourage you to spread the word about the same. Also request our fellow artistes to share and raise your views protecting music copy right”, it added.
Earlier, when Ajaneesh was questioned by the media about the comparison and allegation of plagiarism he had said that although he was inspired by the band’s composition, “Varaha Roopam” was an original composition.
Speaking to many reputed Kannada media, Ajanaeesh had said that the tune sounded like that of “Navarasam” is because the tune incorporated different classical notes. While combining these classical notes any song will sound the same.
