Kapu: A lorry moving towards Udupi from Mangaluru crashed into a roadside petty shop at Kaup on Monday afternoon.

The incident took place on National Highway 66 near Kote Babbuswamy Daivasthana near Kapu Petrol Pump.

For the past few weeks, work for replacing the asphalt on the national highway is being carried out, due to which the flyover at Kapu is closed. The vehicles are being diverted to take the service road at Kapu junction.

While taking the diversion onto the service road, the lorry driver lost control and rammed into the roadside kiosk.

Due to the impact, the front of the petty shop was completely crushed. A person who was at the shop at the time was seriously injured and has been rushed to a hospital.

Kapu police rushed to the spot and conducted an investigation. Kapu MLA Lalaji R. Mendon also visited the accident spot.
