Kapu: Man killed, wife serious after being hit by bus while crossing road

Kapu: A man died and his wife sustained serious injuries after being hit by a bus while crossing the road on National Highway 66 at Mulur Manglapete on Wednesday night.

The deceased has been identified as Hidayatullah (57), a resident of Kalyabharat Nagar in Kapu. His wife, Shavar, sustained serious injuries.

The incident happened when the couple parked their two-wheeler on the side of the Mangaluru-Udupi highway and were heading towards a nearby hotel to pick up a parcel. A bus traveling from Udupi to Mangaluru hit them, resulting in a fatal collision.

Residents rushed to the spot and took the injured to a hospital in Udupi using an SDPI ambulance. Hidayatullah succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital.

Driver and Conductor Flee Scene: The front of the bus was heavily damaged due to the accident, and both the driver and conductor fled the scene, leaving the bus behind. Traffic on the highway was disrupted for about half an hour. Police quickly arrived at the spot and cleared the congestion with the help of residents.

A case has been registered at the Kapu police station.
