Kapu: Senior physician and multifaceted achiever Dr K Prabhakar Shetty passes away

Kapu: Senior physician, honorary president of Dandathirtha group of educational institutions, and founder of Prashant Hospital,  Dr K. Prabhakar Shetty died on January 15 at a private hospital in Mangaluru. He was 81.

He is remembered for his exceptional service to the people of the region. As the chairman of the Kapu Peacekeeping Committee, he worked hard to amicably resolve the communal clashes that had occurred many years ago. He had also been the chairman of several temple committees.

As an educationist, Dr Shetty was instrumental in beginning the Dandathirtha group of institutions. He served as the founder president of Udupi District Private Hospitals’ Association, member of the Manipal Kasturba Hospital advisory committee,  honorary president of Bharat Scouts and Guides local body, non-life member of the Indian Red Cross, and founder of kapu lions club — to name a few.

Family sources said Dr. Prabhakar Shetty’s last rites will be held on the morning of Monday, January 17 at his home in Kapu.

Dr. Prabhakar Shetty is survived by his wife Shobha P. Shetty and son Dr. K Prahant Shetty.

Noted personalities of the district — Udupi Puttige pontiff Sri Sugunendra Thirtha Sripada, Kapu MLA Llalaji R. Mendon, former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, coastal development authority chairman Mattaru Ratnakar Hegde, and several others — have expressed their condolences at the passing of Dr Praphakar Shetty.
