Karavali expects heavy rains

Mangaluru: The Incessant rains on Saturday that lashed Karavali left as trail of destruction and claimed the life of a woman. The victim was washed away on a river at Shirlal in Belthangady.
The deceased woman has been identified as Revathi (50), and is is survived by four children, two of whom are speech and hearing impaired.
The torrential rains that covered Kodagu district claimed the life of a renowned farmer and vintage car collector P.C.Ahemad Haji (68), due to the fall of a tree branch.
Another person died in Hassan district due to the fall of a tree. The deceased has been identified as Puttayya (60) from Kalale village in Sakleshpur taluk of Hassan.
The torrential rains accompanied by gusty winds since the morning, uprooted many trees at various locations of the district, including one each in Hosabettu near Surathkal and near Nehru Maidan. Power supply was disrupted in Pacchanady area after a tree fell on a transformer. as many as nine electric poles and transformer in Kulshekar substation area were damaged, informed the Mescom officials.
The severe rain led to the collapse of an old building at Bhavanthi Street. Strong winds inflicted damage on many houses and farmlands at Pernaje in Puttur.
In the afternoon, anticipating danger from an old tree, the police diverted traffic at Karavali Circle in Kankanady to Pumpwell.
