Mangaluru: Karavali will soon get a State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) unit to deal with any emergency situations here due to natural calamities. A site has been allocated near Bajpe for the setting up of the unit. The SDRF unit will be responsible of undertaking immediate relief and rescue measures during any disaster that may occur along the coast between Karwar and the city.

Considering the dire need of the state for a unit on the lines of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) which operates from Bengaluru, the previous sate government had sanctioned a contingent of this force for karavali region.

10 acre plot

Ten acres of land have been set aside in Arasulapadav in Badaga Yekkar village near Bajpe for the purpose of setting up the unit. According to sources, the land would be handed over to the fire brigade and the process of handing over is likely to be concluded within a week.
