Karkala: A disturbing incident of alleged gang rape involving a 21-year-old woman from Kukkundooru village has come to light within the jurisdiction of the Karkala town police station.
According to reports, three men from a different community allegedly administered intoxicants to the woman and then raped her. The incident is believed to have occurred around 7 PM on Friday evening. The unconscious victim was later admitted to the Karkala Taluk Hospital.
Hindu activist groups gathered outside the hospital, prompting the police to maintain a heightened presence. The police have detained a man named Altaf for questioning in connection with the case.
The victim, a resident of Ayyappa Nagar in Kukkundooru, was reportedly taken to a secluded area known as Ranganapalkhe, where the crime took place. It is alleged that one man initially raped her after giving her alcohol and other drugs, followed by the assault by two others. The woman is currently recovering in the hospital.
Bajrang Dal State Coordinator Sunil K.R. condemned the incident, demanding that all the accused be arrested by tomorrow, failing which he warned of a protest at the police station. Members of the Bovi community also condemned the attack, urging immediate arrests.
Suspect known to victim?
It is reported that one of the accused was known to the victim. He is said to have lured her to the location, committed the rape, and then called the other two to join in. The woman was involved in beekeeping, and her family had settled in Karkala a few years ago.
