Karkala: A 9-year-old boy from Manjal Bettu in Bajagoli village of the taluk here has become the youngest known Kambala trainee.

Ateesh Prabhu, son of Suhas Prabhu and Amruta, was attracted by the folk sports after the record stint of Srinivas Gowda who technically broke the record of the fastest man in the world Usain Bolt.

Ateesh’s father Suhas is a farmer and a traditional physician. He too has participated in Kambala races.

Presently, the family has three buffaloes. Ateesh does most of the washing, feeding and caring of their animals. He started to train running with the buffaloes recently in the traditional garb of Kambala buffaloes racers.

“Ateesh is studying in class 4 of SVT Education Institute in Karkala. The video of him running with the buffaloes went viral on social media websites. His interest in Kambala at such a young age will definitely make him likely to be a Kambala racer in the future,” said Ateesh’s mother Amruta Mudaru who is also a gram panchayat member.
