Karkala: Man sets record in painting blindfolded

Karkala: Surya Purohit from here, an artist who has achieved many accolades in Rangoli drawing, has been selected for the India Book of Records 2021 for drawing a painting of sunrise blindfolded.
Purohit, originally from Puttur, has made many paintings and emerged as a recognised painter.
During the lockdown, he blindfolded himself and practised drawing a picture of the sunrise.
The record-making 33 inch-long, 22 inch-wide picture was drawn by him in 4 minutes and 32 seconds.
Purohit comes from a family of artists and had been interested in art as a child. His father Vithal Acharya and mother Lakshmi Acharya are theatre artists.
He has painted more than 600 watercolour paintings.
In addition to being a painter and a priest, he is an expert in rangoli drawing.
