Karkala: Congress Candidate for the Karkala Assembly segment Muniyal Uday Kumar Shetty held a ‘vehicle rally’ on Sunday to seek the support of Congress workers for his campaign.
He offered floral tributes to a portrait of former MLA Gopal Bhandari before addressing the party workers.
Addressing the gathered workers in Tulu, Shetty promised to work in the path followed by the late Gopal Bhandari. “Work for me for the next 25 days, I will be at your service for the next 5 years,” he said.
Giving reasons for his absence from the party circles for the past few years, Shetty said that he had stayed away due to personal business-related reasons and asked workers not to misunderstand his absence.
Meanwhile, there has been dissent in the party circles after the nomination of Shetty. Mudradi Manjunath Poojary who had been an aspirant for the Congress ticket for Karkala resigned as Hebri Block Congress President. He also refused to campaign in favor of Muniyal Udaya Kumar Shetty. At a press conference in Udupi, Poojary accused the KPCC president DK Shivakumar of neglecting those who worked for the party.
