Belman: The board naming a road in Bola village of Karkala Taluk here after Nathuram Godse, the man who shot Mahatma Gandhi dead, has raised a new controversy.
The road that is quite close to the Bola Gram Panchayat office, has a board naming it “Padugiri Nathuram Godse Road” written in Kannada Script. The pictures of the road name board have gone viral on social media, inviting sharp criticism.
In a statement to ‘Udayavani Web’, Karkala MLA Sunil Kumar V clarified that the name board has been installed by an unknown private party. “The name board has not been installed by the gram panchayat. It has been installed by some private individuals. The gram panchayat will investigate the matter,” he said.
Sources in the Bola Gram Panchayat said that the panchayat has not taken any official decision to name the road after Nathuram Godse. The board has been installed by unknown persons, sources added.
Meanwhile, the Bola Gram Panchayat removed the board as soon as the issue blew up. Karkala Rural Police SI Tejaswi visited the spot.
