Karkala: An SSLC student tragically breathed her last after being hit by a bike in Nandalike while she was on her way to a temple.

The deceased has been identified as Pranamya Shetty (14).

The incident occurred on Saturday evening shortly after the tenth-grade student left her home to visit the local Lakshmi Janardhana Temple. The bike rider veered off the road to the extreme left and hit Pranamya from behind.

Pranamya, who suffered a head injury, was immediately rushed to a hospital in Karkala but could not be saved. A complaint has been filed stating that the accident was a result of the bike rider’s reckless driving.

Pranamya had lost her father at a young age. Her mother, Nalini Shetty, works as a laborer in a cashew factory and has been raising her two daughters with great difficulty. Pranamya was the younger of the two sisters. She was studying in the tenth grade at Belman Mulladka English Medium School, while her elder sister is pursuing her studies in Nitte.

It is gathered that Pranamya routinely visited the temple every evening. She was known to be a bright student.

The Karkala Rural Police Station has registered a case regarding the incident.
