Karkala: Suspect cattle thieves try to run over cops

Karkala: In a bid to evade arrest, cattle thieves rammed their car into the police who tried to stop them on the highway at Mala in the taluk on early Sunday morning.
Police tried to stop the suspicious car and a bike used for protection with barricades. However, the miscreants rammed the barricade and tried to run over the police personnel.
Even though the cops were injured they gave a chase and manage to apprehend the bike rider who kid off the road a little ahead from the spot. But the car transporting the stolen cattle managed to escape.
The bike was completely damaged in the accident and the rider had sustained injuries, police said.
Karkala Rural SI Tejaswi and another policeman also sustained injuries during the incident and are receiving medical treatment.
When contacted, SI Tejaswi confirmed the incident and said that a suspect has been detained is being interrogated. “We are interrogating him. Details cannot be divulged at this point in the investigations,” he added.
