Karkala: Two drown in lake

Karkala: Two people drowned while bathing in the Ramasamudra Lake here. The incident occurred at noon on Friday, March 27.

The deceased have been identified as Bhadravati-based Kavitha (24) and Deekshita (12).

Deekshita had arrived at her uncle’s house here. She along with her cousin Sharath (10) and Kavita had gone to the lake for a dip. A while later Sharath saw the two of them drowning and ran to get help.

Locals immediately jumped into the lake to rescue the two.

Later, emergency services personnel arrived and after a two-hour search pulled out the two bodies.

Tehsildar Purandar Hegde, Karkala town police SI Madhu BE, Town council member Winnibold and a few others were present during the search and retrieval.
