Karkala: Acting on a complaint filed by a woman, Karkala town police personnel arrested a man for alleged blackmail and rape.
The arrested is identified as Sadiq from Pattonjikatte.
In the complaint, it is stated that the victim came in contact with Sadiq two years back and she had availed a loan of Rs 15000 from the latter. Later Sadiq began visiting her home demanding loan repayment.
As the victim asked him not to visit her house asking for repayment he gave her a mobile phone and used to call her demanding the loaned amount. Recently, Sadiq took her to a house in Pattonjikatte, where he sexually assaulted the woman and took her intimate photos which he then used to blackmail her,
On October 6, Sadiq again asked the woman to come to the house at Pattonjikatte. He threatened to make public her photos and ruin her reputation if she did not turn up at the house. Intimidated by his threat, the woman went to his house where Sadiq attempted to rape her.
The lady, however, managed to escape from there and approached the police to register a complaint.
