Karnataka: 12 sportspersons rewarded with government jobs

Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has handed appointment letters to 12 athletes from the state who have excelled in various sports at the national and international levels. The event, organized by the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, was held at the Chief Minister’s residence, Krishna.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah presented the appointment letters to the athletes who have won medals in the Olympics, Paralympics, Asian Games, Para Asian Games, and Commonwealth Games.

Appointment Letters for 12 Athletes:

Speaking at the event, CM Siddaramaiah announced, “The state government is committed to supporting athletes who have won medals in various sports events. We have decided to provide government jobs to these athletes. Today, we are issuing appointment letters to 12 such individuals.”

He further stated that during the 2016-17 Olympics Association event, a promise was made to provide government jobs to athletes excelling in events like the Olympics, Asian Games, and Commonwealth Games.

Previously, only 2% of positions in the police department were reserved for sports achievers. Now, a draft notification has been issued to reserve 3% of positions in both the police and forest departments, and 2% in all other state government departments for accomplished athletes. A final notification will be issued soon.

Age Limit Set at 45:

CM Siddaramaiah also highlighted that since he took office, the reservation for sports achievers in the police and forest departments has been increased to 3%. Graduates among these athletes will be offered Group C positions.

Out of the 12 athletes, one will receive a Group A position, while the others will be placed in Group B positions.

Additionally, the age limit for these jobs has been set at 45 years.

The CM extended his heartfelt congratulations to the medal winners who received their appointment letters.
