Karnataka all set to witness high-stakes Assembly elections in May!

Bengaluru: Karnataka is all set to witness a fierce political battle between the ruling party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the opposition parties, with the announcement of the Assembly elections in 2023.

The state has a total of 224 constituencies out of which 36 and 15 seats are reserved for SC and ST respectively. There are over 5 crores voters in Karnataka.

The current BJP government led by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has been in power since July 2021, after the resignation of BS Yediyurappa. The BJP is hoping to retain power in the state and has already started its campaign in full swing.

On the other hand, the opposition parties, including the Indian National Congress (INC), Janata Dal (Secular) (JD(S)), and the newly formed party, Karnataka Vikas Party (KVP), are all gearing up to take on the BJP. They have been attacking the government on various issues, including the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, unemployment, and the state’s economic slowdown.

The elections on May 10, and the Election Commission has already started preparations for the same. The Commission has directed the state government to ensure that the necessary arrangements are made to conduct free and fair elections.

As per the latest reports, the BJP is confident of its victory in the state and is likely to focus on its development agenda. The party has also promised to implement various welfare schemes for the people of the state.
