Mangaluru: Police department of the district has taken steps to maintain law and order during the Karnataka bandh on Monday called by farmers, labour unions, and various rights organisations.
The police department has deployed 6 Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) platoons and 8 District Armed Reserve (DAR) and 50 home guard battalions in Mangaluru, besides civil and traffic police of all the police stations.
The farmers are likely to hold protest in front of mini Vidhana Soudha in the district and the police have warned of strict action against those violating COVID-19 norms.
The dawn-to-dusk bandh call has been supported by several pro-Kannada and other outfits besides the opposition Congress and the JD(S), who had opposed protesting the amendments to the APMC and land reforms acts made by the Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa government. It is also backed by several labour organisations who are protesting against amendments to certain labour laws during the brief assembly session that concluded on September 26.
