Udupi: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, who is on a tour of the district, visited Udayavani headquarters on Monday in Manipal amidst his busy schedule.

The chief minister assumed the role of Guest Editor and said Udayavani has been the voice of the people for 50 years. From a humble beginning in the state’s coastal region, it has made its presence felt across the width and breadth of Karnataka. It has become the talk of the town, he added.

“The popularity of a newspaper can be gauged from the quality of the content it curates for its readers. I don’t have experience in running a newspaper, but I am a good reader. Despite having ample choices, Udayavani’s reader base has been loyal to the publication due to its impartial and incisive content.” the chief minister said.

Further, CM Bommai said that the news analysis should be truthful and objective. Udayavani has done it. “It is not easy to run a newspaper for 50 years under such high standards,” he added.

Nationally acclaimed philosopher ad scholar Bannanje Govindacharya once worked as the editor at Udayavani, which shows the quality of the publication, the Chief Minister said.

Udayavani is a media that not only informs but acts as a guide. “I have taken many decisions after reading reports published in Udayavani,” the CM added.

He also touched upon the symbiotic relationship between a politician and the media.  “A politician cannot grow without the media. Similarly, the media also needs politicians. Both have an innate relationship. Criticism should be welcomed. When the statements and opinions of the politicians reach the public, a healthy society can be built. Let Udayavani awaken Karnataka to a new dawn,” he said.

The chief Minister also penned an editorial for the Udayavani newspaper, on this occasion.

On behalf of Udayavani, Mr. T Satish U Pai, the Executive Chairman of Manipal Media Network Ltd (MMNL), Dr. Sandhya S Pai, Managing Editor of Taranga weekly magazine, Mr. T Gautham Pai, the Executive Chairman of Manipal Technologies Ltd, Mr. Vinod Kumar, the CEO and Managing Director of MMNL, and Mr. Aravinda Navada, the Editor of Udayavani welcomed the Chief Minister.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by Minister Sunil Kumar, MLA Raghupati Bhat, and Udupi District Commissioner Kurma Rao M, among others.
