Bengaluru: The Department of Stamps and Registration has banned cash, demand draft and cheque payments in all sub-registrar offices after many cases of fraud by officers were reported.
According to officials in the Revenue Department, cash payments at the offices were being transferred to private bank accounts and were also used in hawala transactions.
In many offices, the money being illegally transferred was in crores leading to the suspension and demotion of many officials.
These developments prompted the department to issue a circular on May 31 stating that only digital payments and bank transfer will be permitted henceforth.
