Karnataka DGP Warns Prisons DIG Roopa for Her Media Statements: Sources

Mangaluru/Bengaluru: Karnataka state Director General of Police (DGP) RK Dutta has reportedly warned DIG Prisons D Roopa for her statement before the media on irregularities found by her during a recent visit to Parappana Agrahara Central Prison, sources said.

Speaking with Roopa through a video conference from Mangaluru on Friday, DGP warned her not speak to media persons on any issue related to the police department.  If she continues with the same, then DIG would face disciplinary action in the future, Dutta reportedly warned her, reports said.

As of now, DGP is on Dakshina Kannada district visit since Friday late evening in the wake of recent communal unrest.

In her report to the state home department and in a statement to media, DIG Roopa noted that she found irregularities in the central prison which violated jail code of conduct and law. DIG also added that DGP received a sum of Rs 2 crore as bribe and violated law to provide special facilities to AIADMK (Amma Group) General Secretary VK Sasikala. In addition to this, convicted counterfeiter Abdul Karim Telgi was also seen enjoying special privileges in the prison breaking law. Meanwhile, Karnataka state government has ordered for a high level probe on Friday into the allegations made by the police officer D Roopa.
