Karnataka Govt Announces 5% Reservation in Govt Jobs for Kannada Medium Candidates

Bengaluru: In a big surprise to Kannadiagas residing in Karnataka and other parts of the country, Karnataka state government has announced 5% reservation in government jobs on Thursday. According to the new circular released, Kannadigas who studied in Kannada medium from first standard to tenth standard would get 5% reservation in civil service jobs.

The sate government amended Karnataka Civil Service (General Appointment) 1977 and added Rule 9(1) (C) to announce its new order to support Kannadigas.  

Earlier, limited number of seats were reserved for Gadinadu, Horanadu Kannadigas for their higher education in Karnataka state. However, according to Sarojini Mahishi Report, understanding the plight of Kannadigas residing outside Karnataka, the state government decided to extend reservation to government jobs also. Based on the new rule, 5% government jobs in Karnataka have been reserved for Kannadigas residing in Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Goa and Delhi who studied in Kannada medium up to their tenth standard.
