Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has barred private schools throughout the state from selling textbooks, notebooks, uniforms and other stationary at their respective school campuses.

A circular from the Department of Public Instruction on Wednesday also stated that no school could force parents and students to buy stationary and other items from a shop or a dealer.

The order is said to be applicable to all schools including to those students who were admitted under the Right to Education Act section 12 (1) c. However, the restriction will not apply to the supply of textbooks from the Karnataka Textbook Society.

The decision reportedly came in order to prevent private schools from collecting additional fee, huge amount for uniform and other items supplied by the respective school managements.
