The Karnataka government has extended a Dussehra-Diwali gift to weavers in the state by providing them with 250 units of electricity free of charge. This initiative aims to support the economic upliftment and self-sufficiency of weavers in the state, benefiting approximately 45,000 weaver families.
Textile and Sugar Minister Shivananda Patila announced this decision at a press conference in the city, emphasizing the government’s commitment to fulfilling its election manifesto promises. The scheme covers power looms up to 20 HP and up to 500 units per month, with rates set at 1.25 per month, benefiting both small and large weavers.
The implementation of this scheme is expected to cost the government around 140 crores, and it is seen as a step toward addressing the state’s electricity challenges.
