The state government has disappointed those who have applied for new ration cards in hopes of availing the benefits of ambitious guarantee schemes. The government has allowed only corrections and amendments to the existing ration cards.

A. Hanumantharaju, Under Secretary to the Government of Food and Civil Supplies, Consumer Affairs and Legal Metrology Department, has ordered allowing only corrections and amendments to the existing ration cards. The Commissioner of the Food and Civil Supplies Department has been directed not to issue any new ration cards until further orders.

Many families who applied for new cards online, with hopes of availing Annabhagya, Gruha Lakshmi Scheme benefits, are likely to be deprived of the opportunity.
